Cayton Carr Bridge Replacement Works and Road Closure – NYC

North Yorkshire Council has advised that essential bridge replacement works will take place at Cayton Carr Bridge, with work scheduled to begin on Monday 3 August 2026.

To enable the safe completion of the project, the road will be subject to a full closure for approximately six weeks while the existing bridge structure is replaced.

• Pedestrian access: Will not be maintained during the works
• Diversion: A fully signed diversion route will be in place

Residents and businesses should be aware that, due to the nature of the works and the physical constraints of the site, there may be periods when access is not possible.

Important Information

Advance warning signs will be installed ahead of the closure. As with all major highway projects, start dates and durations may be subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances, including severe weather or emergency works elsewhere on the highway network.

The Council asks all road users to follow instructions from traffic management operatives and to take extra care when travelling near the works area.
