Proposed Speed Limit Changes for Cayton

North Yorkshire Council has published proposals to introduce new speed limits on roads within Cayton as part of efforts to improve road safety and reduce vehicle speeds.

The proposals would introduce a 20mph speed limit on Limekiln Lane for its entire length, together with a 20mph limit on the section of Mill Lane between Main Street and a point approximately 234 metres to the north east. A 40mph speed limit is also proposed for a further section of Mill Lane, extending approximately 600 metres beyond the proposed 20mph limit.

According to North Yorkshire Council, the proposed Traffic Regulation Order has been put forward primarily to reduce vehicle speeds and improve road safety, while also supporting the safe and convenient movement of traffic and pedestrians.

Residents and other interested parties can view the draft order, accompanying plans and supporting information, and may submit comments or objections to North Yorkshire Council. The consultation period runs until 1 October 2026.
