Cayton in Bloom

Cayton in Bloom is an independent charity run by volunteers who maintain planters, hanging baskets and floral displays across the parish. Established in 2002, the group helps keep Cayton looking vibrant and welcoming. New volunteers are always welcome.

Overview

Cayton in Bloom is an independent local charity and volunteer-led community group dedicated to enhancing and maintaining the appearance of Cayton Parish for the benefit of residents and visitors alike.

Established in 2002, the group works throughout the parish to create attractive floral displays and encourage community pride. Its objectives include promoting good gardening practices, delivering planting schemes in public spaces, encouraging local businesses and organisations to support environmental improvements, and involving local people in making Cayton an even better place to live.Over the years, Cayton in Bloom volunteers have adopted and cared for numerous planters, hanging baskets and artificial floral displays across the parish. The displays are planted, watered and maintained by volunteers who take responsibility for designated areas, helping to ensure that Cayton remains colourful and welcoming throughout the year. The group’s contribution has played an important part in the village’s success in floral and environmental improvement initiatives. Cayton was awarded a Silver-Gilt award in Britain in Bloom in 2010, reflecting the tremendous efforts of local volunteers and supporters.

Funding and Community Support

Cayton in Bloom relies on fundraising, donations, sponsorship and grant funding to support its work. The group spends thousands of pounds each year on seasonal bedding plants and display maintenance, raising funds through events, community activities and support from local businesses.

In 2024, the group received National Lottery Community Fund support to help replace the much-loved decorative boat display located at the Cayton Bay end of Mill Lane, demonstrating the value and recognition of the group’s work within the community.

Volunteers Needed

Cayton in Bloom is always keen to welcome new volunteers. Whether you enjoy gardening, watering displays, planting flowers, helping with maintenance, fundraising or simply want to contribute to your local community, any amount of time you can give is greatly appreciated.

Volunteering is a rewarding way to meet people, spend time outdoors and help keep Cayton looking its best.
