Civility and Respect Pledge

This details whether the council has signed the Civility and Respect pledge. This is a project between NALC, SLCC and OVW to help councils show their zero tolerance for bullying, harassment and intimidation in local councils.

Cayton Parish Council is committed to promoting a culture of civility, professionalism, and mutual respect in all aspects of its work. To demonstrate this commitment, the Council has signed the Civility and Respect Pledge, joining councils across the country in supporting positive and respectful local government.

By signing the pledge, the Council affirms its commitment to treating councillors, staff, residents, volunteers, and representatives of partner organisations with courtesy, dignity, and respect. The pledge also confirms that the Council:

  • Provides appropriate training opportunities for councillors and staff.
  • Has adopted a Councillor Code of Conduct.
  • Maintains effective governance arrangements, including staff contracts and a Dignity at Work Policy.
  • Seeks professional support at an early stage if civility and respect issues arise.
  • Challenges and addresses bullying, harassment, and inappropriate behaviour.
  • Continues to learn from best practice across the local council sector and strives for continuous improvement.
  • Supports efforts to strengthen legislation that promotes high standards of conduct and accountability in local government.

The Civility and Respect Pledge is a sector-wide initiative led by local government organisations to encourage positive behaviours, improve working relationships, and support effective community leadership.

By signing the pledge, Cayton Parish Council is reaffirming its commitment to creating a respectful, inclusive, and supportive environment for everyone who engages with the Council.
